QUESTIONS FOR PEDIATRICIAN

Questions to Ask When Selecting Your Pediatrician

Our parents suggest that you ask these questions when you are selecting a pediatrician:

  • Does your medical staff (Nurses, Physicians Assistants, etc.) have experience with single ventricle/complex congenital heart disease patients?

  • Do you have experience taking care of and coordinating care for children with complex congenital heart disease?

  • Will you accommodate special appointment times to reduce my child’s exposure to illness?

  • How will you communicate with my child’s Cardiologist?

  • Do we as parents need to be involved in the communication process between you and the cardiologist? For example, transport/deliver records, etc.

  • Do you have experience taking care of and coordinating care for single ventricle patients?

  • Do you feel comfortable caring for my child knowing they have congenital heart disease?

  • If we have questions, are you available by phone and/or email?

  • What is your typical response time to questions left via phone message and/or e-mail?

  • Do you know my child’s cardiologist?
